This Advisory summarizes the regulatory requirements applicable to SOx EGCS, often referred to as scrubbers, and to provide an overview of available technologies, as well as highlight some of the selection, installation and operational issues that need to be considered when selecting EGCS as a means of compliance with current and future exhaust gas emission regulations.
Critical amongst these regulations are the measures to reduce sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions inherent to the relatively high sulfur content of traditional marine fuels. Ship designers, owners and operators have a number of different routes to achieve SOx regulatory compliance including:
