Amendments to the AFS Convention - Ban on Cybutryne in Hull Coatings

As an increasing number of studies have become available on the environmental and ecological impacts of cybutryne, amendments to the International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-Fouling Systems on Ships (AFS Convention) have been adopted to prohibit further application of cybutryne and control its impact on the marine environment. Vessel owners must prepare to comply with these requirements by demonstrating the application of cybutryne-free hull coatings to new vessels, or by documenting remediation steps taken to address existing vessels with hull coatings containing cybutryne.
