China to Implement Emission Controls
The Chinese Government has announced that it will implement a three-year plan to reduce SOx emission control measures starting on 1 January 2016. Initially, core ports may require ships at berth to use fuel with less than 0.5% sulphur content or implement equivalent measures such as exhaust gas cleaning. However, as of 1 January 2017, these provisions will become mandatory for ships at berth in core ports and will progress in 2019 to ships operating within designated areas.
