HTW 9 Brief
The IMO Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW) Sub-Committee held its 9th session from February 6 to 10, 2023. This Brief provides an overview of the more significant issues discussed at this session, which include new guidelines on use of electronic seafarers’ certificates, new standards for training and certification of fishing vessel personnel (STCW-F Code), and work to develop new training provisions under the STCW Convention to address bullying and harassment in the maritime sector. While new regulations developed by the HTW Sub-Committee are not finalized until approved by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC), a review of the Sub-Committee’s activity can provide a forecast of future regulatory developments.
