MARPOL Annex VI – Fuel Oil Sampling Points

The 75th session of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 75) approved amendments to MARPOL Annex VI on procedures for sampling and verification of the sulphur content of fuel oil, including definitions of MARPOL delivered sample, in-use sample and on-board sample. Regulations entering into force on 1 April 2022 will require that new and existing vessels shall install dedicated sampling points for the collection of representative samples of the fuel oil in use onboard.  This ABS Regulatory News bulletin provides guidance on understanding and preparing for compliance with this requirement.
