USCG Marine Safety Information Bulletin on Foreign-Flagged Yacht Examinations

The US Coast Guard (USCG) has issued a Marine Safety Information Bulletin, advising that the USCG has promulgated procedures for examining foreign-flagged yachts that are passenger vessels and for other such vessels measuring 300 or more gross tons. Although yachts are normally operated as recreational vessels, they may be subject to inspection as seagoing motor vessels depending on their size and area of operation. Owners/operators, being responsible for maintaining vessel safety and ensuring the validity of all relevant certificates and compliance of crew and equipment with applicable domestic and international laws, are encouraged to review this information bulletin.
