A Legacy of Gas Carrier Leadership
ABS is the world’s premier classification society for carriers with more than 50 years of experience building and classing gas carriers of every type and size and specializing in the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Going beyond classification services, ABS joins forces with partners in the carrier fleet to develop innovative solutions for efficient, environmentally responsible gas transportation systems.
For more than 50 years, ABS has classed LPG and LNG carriers – including the first conversion of a cargo vessel to carry LPG, the first purpose-built LNG carrier and the first Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC). Building on teamwork and applying our unrelenting drive to reimagine gas transportation solutions for the next generation of shipping, ABS is a trailblazer for the entire industry.
