Ballast Water Management Convention and BWMS Code (BWM Convention)

Regulation E1: Ballast Water Management System Commissioning Testing

Amendments to Regulation E 1 of the BWM Convention were adopted to incorporate a requirement for a commissioning test at the time of installation to confirm the performance of ballast water management systems. The commissioning test will be considered a requirement of the initial or additional survey, which grants the certification issuance reflecting compliance with the D 2 biological standards. The guidelines for the commissioning test are provided in BWM.2 Circular 70. The test is intended to confirm that the system’s treatment method is effective in the installed configuration, not to qualify the system’s type approval certification.
