UK Ship Recycling Requirements
The EU Ship Recycling Regulation has been transposed into UK law by SI 2018/1122 and SI 2019/277, referred to as the UK Ship Recycling regulations (UK SRR), and with regards to Ship Recycling Facilities by SI 2015/430 and SI 2020/1429. Furthermore, the UK has issued MGN 633, Amendment 1 on Requirements in relation to Hazardous Materials on Ships, and MGN 656 on approved Ship Recycling Facilities, providing guidance on the UK SRR.
As of January 1, 2021, the UK SRR applies to UK flagged ships 500GT and over on international voyages, calling at ports or anchorages in the UK, calling at ports or anchorages in the EEA (EU, Iceland and Norway) and to non-UK flagged ships 500GT and over calling at ports or anchorages in the UK.
